Botanica - get ready

Updated: May 15

I promised a wee update on Botanica, so here we go. Ready?

I was going to do this as a CAL, but life is extremely hectic just now, so I will release the pattern as a whole. Of course, we can still all crochet it together, but you won’t have to wait for the next chart to continue. And yes, I am going to crochet it again with you. I'll post details about the yarn I'm going to use in the Facebook group closer the time.

I plan to release the pattern on the 2nd of June 2024.

So you have plenty of time to finish up what you're crocheting and get your yarn and hooks ready. The paid pattern will be available to download on Ravelry and Etsy.

If you are not already a member of my Facebook Group, please come and join, as all pattern release updates and my progress with my new blanket will be posted there.

Righty ho - some specifics for you.

There are two versions of the pattern you will have access to:-

Normal version

There is one version in normal overlay mosaic crochet, where you use one colour per row.

I crocheted this in Stylecraft Special DK in a Hint of Silver and French Navy. Of course, you can choose any colours you like; it doesn't have to be two plain colours. Some of my testers have used variegated yarns or created their own colourways using the charts. I'll wait until the release for them to show their stunning examples. They need to take the credit themselves because they're so lovely (the testers and their blankets lol)

Of course, you can use any yarn and colours you like for this blanket; remember that a different weight of yarn will affect the final size of the blanket.

I have charted the mosaic tapestry version in a slightly different way to make it easier for anyone who wants to try mosaic tapestry. And I promise, promise, promise it’s easy peasy!

The charts and written instructions will detail exactly when to change colour, and the PDF will include a sample for you to try first. A video will also show you how to read the charts and change colour. I’m just trying to make it all as easy as possible for you.

This is why it’s taken me so long to get this to you, as so much work has gone into creating these charts and writing up the PDFs.

As normal, there will be PDFs in US and UK versions too.

The blanket size (using DK weight yarn) will be approximately 102cm wide by 120cm long with a 3-row double border (171 stitches x 223 rows)

·         4mm hook (for the main blanket)

·         3mm hook (for the double border)

·         Scissors

·         Stitch markers

Gauge:

·         18 stitches and 18 rows for a 10x10cm tension square using a 4mm hook.

Example colourways for the Mosaic Tapestry Version

Designing is fun, and so is colouring in. To help you visualise different colourways, I have created a few for you to see - I haven't crocheted these up; they're just indications of what they may look like in these colours. I could have made many more, but I had to stop myself.

You can use any of these if you are struggling with colourways, but I am sure you may come up with something I haven’t even thought of. Really, the possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see what you create.

So grab your yarn and get ready to crochet with me in June.
